The King has approved the appointment of the Reverend Lindsay Anne Yates MA, BTh, MTh, Honorary Minor Canon in Canterbury Cathedral, in the Diocese of Canterbury, to be a Residentiary Canon in Canterbury Cathedral upon the retirement of the Reverend Canon Dr Timothy James Neville Naish, BA, MA, PhD.

It is with deep sadness and shock that we heard of the sudden death this week of Robert Willis, our former Dean. Our thoughts and prayers are with his partner Fletcher, and their family and friends.

A Book of Condolence will be available in the Chapel of St Augustine of Canterbury at the west end of the Cathedral from 2pm on Thursday 24^th October for anyone who would like to pay their respects.

The ‘Saying Goodbye’ services were launched by the Mariposa Trust to provide support to the 30,000,000 individuals, couples and families affected by baby loss each year globally, and they have been vital in helping countless tens of thousands of bereaved families acknowledge and remember the baby or babies that they have lost.

2024 will see over 28 services taking place in seven countries, and Canterbury Cathedral in Kent has been chosen to host a service on the 12th of October at 11.30am. Since 2012 over 230 services have taken place.

Visitors this winter will be in for a rare treat as a historic 600-year-old Christmas market returns to the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral.

Same-sex couples already in civil partnerships or civil marriages, or who have sealed a covenanted friendship, can now be offered Prayers of Love and Faith at Canterbury Cathedral, following a unanimous decision by the Dean and governing Chapter.

These prayers will be offered within regular services of public worship for same-sex couples who love one another and who wish to give thanks for and mark that love in faith before God, and who are part of the Cathedral community.
