King Approves Appointment of New Canon Precentor
The King has approved the appointment of the Reverend Lindsay Anne Yates MA, BTh, MTh, Honorary Minor Canon in Canterbury Cathedral, in the Diocese of Canterbury, to be a Residentiary Canon in Canterbury Cathedral upon the retirement of the Reverend Canon Dr Timothy James Neville Naish, BA, MA, PhD.
Lindsay has most recently been leading the Generous Giving Team in the Diocese of Canterbury, whilst also serving as a cathedral Minor Canon. Previously she was Rector of eight rural churches in the Diocese of Chichester, Lecturer and Tutor in Liturgy and Worship at St Mellitus, and Chaplain at Westcott House and Pembroke College, Cambridge. She was a Choral Scholar whilst an undergraduate at Cambridge. Prior to ordination, Lindsay was called to the Bar in 1992. She is married to Archdeacon Will Adam, and is mother to three daughters.
Lindsay will be collated by the Bishop of Dover, the Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, and installed by the Dean of Canterbury, the Very Reverend Dr David Monteith, as Canon Residentiary and Precentor at a service of Choral Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral in October (details to be announced soon). The service will be open to the public and will also be available to watch live online via the Cathedral’s YouTube channel.

Lindsay said "I am delighted to be joining the Cathedral team as Canon Precentor at this exciting time in the life of the Diocese, the Cathedral and the Church of England. I look forward to working with colleagues, in building on the foundations of liturgical and musical excellence established over the centuries."
Bishop Rose said "Lindsay has already been serving in our diocese with commitment, supporting our parishes in their generosity. She will now bring that same spirit to her work at the Cathedral, enabling us all to share in worship and the beauty of holiness."
Dean David said "I with our Chapter and Senior Leadership Team are so looking forward to Lindsay’s arrival. She will collaborate closely with our choirs, virgers, stewards and the many others who work together in our daily offering of worship. She will help us to coordinate our courses and learning opportunities and assist with the provision of safeguarding. She arrives as we make our final preparations for Advent and Christmas but also as she works to curate the installation service for the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury."
