Tickets and opening times

We can’t wait to welcome you to Canterbury Cathedral. Tickets can be booked online or are available to buy on the day at our visitor centre. Please check our website prior to your visit as opening times may be subject to change.

Monday to Saturday 09.00 - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)

Sunday 11.30* - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)
*Between 11.30-12.30, access is available to the Cathedral grounds and Shop only. The Cathedral church opens at 12.30.

 

 

Adult

£17.00

Our standard visitor ticket is valid for 12 months, meaning you can re-visit the Cathedral as often as you want during that time at no extra cost.

Children (aged 17 and under)

Free

Children go FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. (Max 2 children per paying adult; does not apply to group bookings or school visits). Children must be accompanied at all times.

 

Canterbury Students

Free

Students studying full-time at local universities - Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Kent, University for the Creative Arts - enjoy FREE entry with their student ID.

English Heritage Members

20% discount on visitor entry

  • Not valid with other promotions or offers.
  • Discount applies to tickets bought on the door at our Visitor Centre only. Discount is not available for online booking. Standard price admission tickets cannot be refunded and exchanged for discounted tickets.
  • Valid until 31 March 2024. T&Cs apply.

Cathedral Pass

Locals can enjoy unlimited visits for the equivalent of just 10p per month!

You may be eligible for a Cathedral Pass if you:

  • work in the old city of Canterbury
  • live within 4 miles of Bell Harry tower, including within The Precincts
  • are a member of the Cathedral Congregation
  • are immediate family of a Cathedral staff member
  • are a member of any church in the diocese (on the parish electoral roll or equivalent)

Our Cathedral Pass cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions or offers.

Parking 

Parking in the Cathedral grounds is only available for Blue Badge holders, subject to limited availability and prior arrangement. There are several public car parks nearby.

Upcoming Closures

The Cathedral plays an active role in the community and it, or parts of it, are at times closed for general visiting due to services, special events or for conservation work to be carried out. Therefore, please always check our opening times and closures before visiting.

The Cathedral and Precincts are huge so, even when parts of the Cathedral are closed for visiting, there will be plenty for you to explore.

The following list includes our forthcoming closures. Please contact our Visits Office with any questions about your visit.

Wednesday 06- The Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt will be closed all day for rehearsals. There will be noise extending to the rest of the Cathedral. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Saturday 09- The Chapter House

The Chapter House will be closed all day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Wednesday 13- The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 13:00 today for a funeral service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

Saturday 16- The Chapter House 

The Chapter House will be closed all day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Tuesday 19- The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 12:00 today for a funeral service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

Thursday 21- The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and Chapter House

The Nave, Martyrdom, and Southwest Transept will be closed from 12:00 for a private service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Chapter House will be closed all day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Tuesday 26- The Crypt and Chapter House

The Crypt will be closed until 14:00 today for the 12:00 Chrism Service officiated by the Bishop of Richborough. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Chapter House will be closed all day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Wednesday 27- The Centre Quire

The Centre Quire will be closed for visiting except for step-free access on request. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Thursday 28- The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, Chapter House, and the Centre Quire

The Nave, Martyrdom, and Southwest transept will be closed until 13:00 today for the 11:00 Chrism Service. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Chapter House will be closed until 14:00 today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Centre Quire will be closed for visiting except for step-free access on request. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Friday 29- The Nave, Quire, Trinity Chapel, and the Centre Quire

The Nave will be closed until 11:00 today for the 10:00 Good Friday Family Service. From 11:00, the Nave will be partially open at the West end for viewing access. The Crypt, Chapter House, and Precincts remain open for visiting all day. Tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre

The Quire and Trinity Chapel may be closed for visiting today. This is to be confirmed. The Crypt, Chapter House, and Precincts remain open for visiting all day. Tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre

The Centre Quire will be closed for visiting except for step-free access on request. The Crypt, Chapter House, and Precincts remain open for visiting all day. Tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre

Saturday 30- The Centre Quire

The Centre Quire will be closed for visiting except for step-free access on request. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Sunday 31- The Cathedral

The Cathedral will be closed for visiting today and only open for the Easter Sunday services. The Precincts remain open for visiting from 11:00. 

Monday 01- The Centre Quire

The Centre Quire may be closed for visiting except for step-free access on request. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Saturday 06- Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt may be closed for visiting today, but open for prayer. This is to be confirmed.

Wednesday 24- The Nave, Martyrdom, SW Transept and Chapter House

The Nave, Martyrdom, and SW Transept will be closed for some of the day for a graduation service at 14:00. Timings to be confirmed. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Chapter House will be closed all day today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Thursday 25- The Nave, Martyrdom, SW Transept and Chapter House

The Nave, Martyrdom, and SW Transept will be closed until 13:00 for a consecration service at 11:00. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

The Chapter House will be closed all day today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Thursday 27- The Eastern Crypt

The Eastern Crypt will be closed for some of today for a Wedding service. Timings are to be confirmed. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Sunday 28- The Nave, Martyrdom, and SW Transept

The Nave, Martyrdom, and Southwest Transept will be closed for some of the day for the 15:00 Scouts' St Geroge's Day Parade and Service. The timings are to be confirmed. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased on arrival at our Visitor Centre.
