A FRIENDLY TALK
Impérial Cuisine from Raj to Piccallili
Tuesday 23 June, 14:30-15:30 in the Clagett Auditorium
This talk will consider characteristics of noted Imperial cuisines, and the influence upon our home tables. Recipes and condiments on everyday tables today owe a heritage of influence from the grand kitchens and chefs of many empires: China, Russia, France, Japan, Mexico, and India.
Further colonisation and trade goods have created a complex culinary mix. Home countries influenced, adapted, and imported culinary styles from complex recipes for the wealthy to humble condiments for the home cook. Terrie will present a savoury overview of imperial cuisine. Terrie Chrones is a frequent presenter for The Friends.
She is a past board member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals, presenter for the international Mid East Studies Association, Oxford Symposium, and an international cookbook judge. Recent talks have focused on almonds in medieval foods, British cider history, salt, peppercorns, bees and wax, and coffee and coffeehouses.
£10 Friends of Canterbury Cathedral; £15 non-members. Includes tea and coffee on arrival.
This event is organised by and in support of The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral (Registered Charity No 1210093).
