Street Pastor embarks on second ‘7 for 70’ challenge
On Monday 11th July 2024, we welcomed Whitstable Street Pastor Denise Smith at the end of her sponsored pilgrimage.
Denise, from Broomfield, Herne Bay is hoping to raise £7,000 for Catching Lives by taking on seven challenges this year to mark her 70th birthday.
Denise said:
"...I’ve called my campaign ‘7 for 70’. I hope to organise 7 events throughout the year to raise £7k...”
As her second challenge, Denise embarked on a sponsored walk of the Becket Way, which is 85 miles from Southwark Cathedral to Canterbury Cathedral.
Denise started her journey on July 2nd, and travelled 100 miles in total (with some pit stops) over the 10 days, finishing on her 70th birthday on July 11th. She had many friends join her at different stages of the walk, who were also fundraising.
At end of her long journey (and on her birthday) we were delighted to welcome Denise at the Cathedral, where she also received a blessing.
In the Autumn, Denise hopes to plan a sponsored paddle along the River Stour and, as a keen photographer, she is producing a 2025 calendar. She is open to ideas for her seventh challenge.
