Tickets can be booked online or are available to buy on the day at our Visitor Centre.

By accessing the grounds or buying a Canterbury Cathedral admission ticket, you agree to be bound by our Terms and Conditions of Entry.

 

It is always free to attend a service of worship or come into one of the Cathedral's chapels to pray.

Opening Times

Monday to Saturday 10.00 - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)

Sunday 11.30* - 17.00 (last admission at 16.00)
*Between 11.30-12.30, access is available to the Cathedral grounds and Shop only. The Cathedral church opens at 12.30.

Opening times are subject to change. Occasionally, areas of the Cathedral may be closed to visiting, due to services, special events or for conservation work to be carried out.

To avoid disappointment, please check opening times and upcoming closures before visiting.

  • work in the old city of Canterbury
  • live within 4 miles of Bell Harry tower, including within The Precincts
  • are a member of the Cathedral Congregation
  • are immediate family of a Cathedral staff member
  • are a member of any church in the diocese (on the parish electoral roll or equivalent)

Our Cathedral Pass cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions or offers.

The Cathedral plays an active role in the community and it, or parts of it, are at times closed for general visiting due to services, special events or for conservation work to be carried out. Therefore, please always check our opening times and closures before visiting.

The Cathedral and Precincts are huge so, even when parts of the Cathedral are closed for visiting, there will be plenty for you to explore.

The following list includes our forthcoming closures. Please contact our Visits Office with any questions about your visit.

IMPORTANT- From June 1st, the Cathedral visiting hours will be 10:00-17:00 Monday-Saturday and 12:30-17:00 on Sundays. With last admission at 16:00 all week. 

 

Tuesday 4th - The Nave, Pulpitum Steps, and the Chapter House

The Nave and Pulpitum Steps will be closed until 10:30, and then again from 12:30 until 14:30 for private services. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting will be available to purchase at our Visitor Centre on arrival. 

The Chapter House will be closed all day. 

 

Wednesday 5th - The Nave, Pulpitum Steps, and the Chapter House

The Nave and Pulpitum Steps will be closed until 10:30, and then again from 12:30 until 14:30 for private services. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting will be available to purchase at our Visitor Centre on arrival.

The Nave and Pulpitum Steps will be closed until 10:30, and then again from 12:30 until 14:30 for private services. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting will be available to purchase at our Visitor Centre on arrival.

Sunday 9th - The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 13:30 for the 12:15 Sunday Eucharist. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting will be available to purchase online or at our Visitor Centre.

 

Monday 10th - The Cathedral

There will be organ tuning all day today. This does not pose a closure but can be audibly disruptive. If you would benefit from using ear defenders, these can be borrowed from our Visitor Centre. 

 

Thursday 13th - The Crypt

The Crypt will be closed until 13:00 for a funeral. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Thursday 20th - The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and the Chapter House 

The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and the Chapter House will be closed all day today for graduations. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or from our Visitor Centre on arrival. 

 

Friday 21st - The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and the Chapter House 

The Nave, Martyrdom, Southwest Transept, and the Chapter House will be closed all day today for graduations. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or from our Visitor Centre on arrival. 

 

Saturday 22nd - The Central Quire 

The Central Quire will be closed all day except for flat-level access. Please speak to a member of staff if you require this. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

 

Tuesday 25th - The Chapter House 

The Chapter House will be closed from 15:00 today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open, and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or from our Visitor Centre on arrival. 

 

Saturday 29th - The Eastern Crypt 

The Eastern Crypt will be closed all day for the Advent Quire Day. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

 

Sunday 30th - The Chapter House 

The Chapter House will be closed from 15:30 today. The rest of the Cathedral remains open and tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.

Sunday 7th - The Cathedral

The Cathedral will close early today at 16:00, with last admission at 15:30.

The Nave will be partially closed today. Tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre. 

The Chapter House will be closed from 14:00 today. Tickets for visiting can be purchased online or on arrival at our Visitor Centre.
