Today (3 December 2019) is #GivingTuesday, a global campaign to encourage people to support charities at this festive time of year.
This year we are using #GivingTuesday to promote Adopt-a-Stop, our campaign to ensure that the Cathedral’s Grand Organ can sing for future generations.
The Organ has been restored over the course of this year, a project which was made possible by our generous supporters. The ranks of pipes (stops) include 2 foot pipes which sound like flutes and piccolos, 8 foot pipes which provide a range of tone and 32 foot pipes which are the bedrock of the organ’s power. Together, they provide a world-class instrument which sits at the heart of the Cathedral’s music.
The project has provided the unique opportunity for donors to ‘sponsor’ a pipe, making a lasting link with Canterbury Cathedral. Many people have done so in memory of a loved one, or to celebrate a special occasion.
There are still a number of pipes available and on #GivingTuesday, we are hoping that more people will be inspired to Adopt-a-Stop!
Help us celebrate centuries of sound for today, and for future generations.
