Free summer fun at Canterbury Cathedral

Free summer fun at Canterbury Cathedral

Do you have children or grandchildren to entertain this summer? If you’re looking for something to do The Canterbury Journey is offering Discovery Day activities every Wednesday throughout August along with the popular Explorer Backpacks. Here’s what’s on offer:

Every Wednesday in August, join the Activity Team for free fun and activities connected to Cathedral Life and its history – each week is different!

Wed 1 Aug: Inspired by the Cathedral’s exhibition, Under an Equal Sky, explore all things nautical in the Cathedral from HMS Canterbury to hidden graffiti boats. Why not come along and make a boat of your own.

Wed 8 Aug: Join us on a safari of Animal Mask Making inspired by a menagerie of creatures found in the Cathedral.

Wed 15 Aug: Find out how medieval monks lived their lives at the Cathedral through object handling, and have a go at the ancient art of calligraphy and decorative illumination.

Wed 22 Aug: A fish tail, striped body and snapping teeth – what would you draw from a description like this? Let your imagination run wild and add your drawing to the Gallery of Animals. Plus meet Paula the Polar Bear!

Wed 29 Aug: Come and meet our new friend Gregory Gargoyle. Enjoy stories and make your own gargoyle hand puppet.

11.00-15.00 each week. Activities are free, normal Precincts charges apply. Children must be accompanied at all times.

Did you know that you can Gift Aid your entry ticket and enjoy free entry for 12 months? Or that if you live local, work in the city (or one of our other categories) you can apply for a Precincts Pass which gives you free entry all year round? That means you could visit every week and enjoy Discovery Days completely free!
