Family Explorer Backpacks

Families visiting Canterbury Cathedral on Thursday 2 June and Friday 3 June have the chance to try our new explorer backpacks.

The backpacks can be loaned from 11am to 3pm as part of the usual Precincts charges and the aim is to provide an active and fun learning experience for younger visitors.

Inside the backpacks are sketch pads and crayons, binoculars, magnifying glasses and magnetic compasses – all to help children investigate many of the beautiful places in the Cathedral.

There are also activity sheets aimed at children aged three to six and others for the seven to 11 age group, which focus on a circles theme as part of the Cathedral’s partnership work with Turner Contemporary at Margate.

The Cathedral has loaned books from its collection to the gallery for the current exhibition – Seeing Round Corners. These are the Nuremberg Chronicle and two Books of Hours.
