All ages enjoy Open Gardens weekend

Young and old came along to our Open Gardens weekend and in warm sunshine enjoyed seeing the beautiful areas of the Cathedral and the Precincts.

The gates to all five historic Canonical private gardens were open and visitors had the opportunity to explore and discover the areas not usually on view.  In addition to the gardens and green spaces, visitors had the rare opportunity to visit the Bastion Chapel in the Memorial Garden.

There was also a gleaming collection of classic cars on display on the Green Court and a refreshment tent provided a variety of homemade cakes and tea. Bees and birds of prey were on display and there were stalls from a number of organisations including Fairtrade and the Samaritans.Fairtrade hamper winner

Winner of a hamper, the prize in the Fairtrade raffle, was Michael Kelly (pictured left) of Canterbury who received it from Joy Sharman from Canterbury District Fairtrade Network and organiser of the Cathedral Open Gardens event Vicky Adley.

The money raised from this year’s Open Gardens will be shared between Send a Cow and L’Arche
