On Sunday 12th June 2016, The Friends of Canterbury Cathedral will be taking part in The Patron’s Lunch, an event in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday.
The lunch is in the form of a classic British ‘street party’ and is being held on The Mall for 10,000 guests. The Friends are honoured and excited to have this opportunity to publicly thank The Queen who has been First Friend on the Roll of The Friends since 1952 and to be proud of the work and service that they and other charities have provided to the nation.
Caroline Plaisted, the Friends’ Secretary, will be picnicking on The Mall with a group of 16 Friends, and Daisy Burton, Friends’ Administrative Assistant, will be leading 11 other Friends in the Entertainment Parade along The Mall. Daisy will be joined by Cathedral Vesturer, Chris Crooks and his family as well as Sandra Heyworth from the Cathedral Lodge. The day promises to deliver a festival-themed atmosphere that can be enjoyed not only by the guests on The Mall, but also by the general public who will be able to soak up the atmosphere at large screens situated in the Royal Parks – Green Park and St James’s Park and on BBC television.
Her Majesty The Queen will be joined on The Mall by the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family to celebrate the occasion. Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry are Joint-Presidents of The Patron’s Lunch.
Caroline said: “It promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience and all of us can’t wait to be taking part.”
