Canterbury Celebrates St Nicholas

Canterbury Celebrates St Nicholas

The annual Canterbury St Nicholas festival parade has raised more than £3,000 for this year’s nominated charities, Lucy’s Head Start and Holding On Letting Go.

The lively and colourful procession of children and musicians was led by Canon Jim Rosenthal, dressed as St Nicholas. The procession made its way through the busy cobbled streets of the City towards the Cathedral, collecting money for charity and spreading plenty of festive cheer. This year the parade was greeted by Stormtroopers and other colourful characters from the Star Wars as it passed the Beaney Museum and Library.

At the Cathedral’s Christ Church Gate, the parade was welcomed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Justin Welby, Cathedral Dean, the Very Revd Dr Robert Willis and those representing the City. A short service of carols accompanied by community musicians and the Cathedral Choir followed in the Nave. The celebrations ended with free hot chocolate provided by Cathedral Staff and gift bags distributed by the Cathedral shop.
