This is always an exciting day for the Cathedral choir when we welcome new boys to complete the numbers for the next twelve month. The choir will have an exciting year, during which they will perform at many special occasions as well as the daily pattern of Cathedral services. The Cathedral choir will make a new CD in March next year, which is eagerly awaited. We start a new choral year with the exciting news that two of the Cathedral Canterbury Cathedral Choristers – Oliver Futcher and William Inscoe have made it through to the prestigious BBC Young Chorister of the Year Awards which will take place at St Martin-in-the-Fields in London on Monday 12 October 2015.

A boy begins in the choir when he is 8 years old as a Probationer, he becomes a Junior Chorister at the age of 9 and then when he is 11 he is installed as a full Chorister and a member of the ancient Cathedral Foundation.

Canterbury Cathedral Choir is looking to award substantial scholarships to talented boys who would like to join them in September 2016. Auditions, for a long time referred to as a Voice Trial, will be held on Saturday 7 November 2015. If you would like any further information about what is involved with becoming a chorister, or would like to have an informal discussion, please call David Flood on 01227 865242.
