The Psalter of St Thomas Becket Rediscovered

The Canterbury Cathedral annual Archives and Library Lecture 2017 is to be given by Dr Christopher de Hamel, fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

Dr de Hamel will be discussing the Psalter in the Parker Library of Corpus Christi College Cambridge which is now identified as probably belonging to Thomas Becket and as one of the treasures of his shrine. He will also recount his searches over the years for Becket’s books, describing how various manuscripts once in Becket’s library have come to light, and what these tell us about the man himself.

Dr de Hamel has recently retired as Librarian of the Parker Library. He has brought the St Augustine’s Gospels to the Cathedral on three occasions, including for two enthronements of Archbishops of Canterbury.

There is no cost for attending the lecture.
