Jazz in the Crypt: Opening Recital – Emilia Mårtensson and Alexander Bennett

We launch Canterbury Cathedral’s Jazz Series 2021 with internationally-renowned performers Emilia Mårtensson (vocals) and Alexander Bennett (piano).

After her four latest album releases, Emilia has built a well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting vocalists on the UK jazz scene and she was awarded ‘Vocalist of the Year – 2016’ at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Her gently expressive voice and highly personal compositions are firmly rooted within the folklore and countryside of her native southern Sweden, adding to the mystique and allure of a distinctive and truly original artist.

Alexander has performed most recently with conductor Jules Buckley as the synth player for the 2015 BBC Proms with artists including Stormzy and Little Simz. In 2019 he held the same chair for three shows under Jules’ conducting as part of the Quincy Jones Orchestra at the O2, Paris as well as closing the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Duration: Approx. 1 hrs (no interval)
