Discovery Days: Hands-on activities
Make your own medieval tile, discover pets, beasts and mythical creatures in the Cathedral collections, and much more with our fun, hands-on activities.
Drop in at any time between 11.00 – 15.00 on Wednesdays to join in.
Wednesday 28 – Festival of Archaeology. Have a go at making your own medieval tile, learn about recent finds from excavations at the Cathedral, and meet the team from Canterbury Archaeological Trust.
Wednesday 4 – Medieval Feasting! Find out what foods were eaten in the past, and get stuck in with a creative printing activity based around medieval feasts!
Wednesday 11 – Shields and Symbols. Explore the imagery and symbols found throughout the Cathedral, including the chough bird seen on Thomas Becket’s coat of arms. Meet our friends at the Kent Wildlife Trust, and learn how the chough is being re-introduced to Dover.
Wednesday 18 – Animals in the Archives. Discover the pets, beasts and mythical creatures in the Cathedral collections! Chat with our friends from the Kent Wildlife Trust, and learn how the bison is being introduced to the area as part of the Wilder Blean woods project.
Wednesday 25 – Miraculous Comics. Take inspiration from the medieval comic strip pilgrim stories in our stained glass windows and create your own miracle tale!
