Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was an Italian painter active from the 1590s to 1610. His paintings, often depicting religious scenes, combine a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of chiaroscuro – light and dark. Come and hear the Reverend Max Kramer, Precentor, tell us more about this controversial artist whose work influenced Baroque painting and whose tumultuous life and death challenged even the Vatican.

Tickets: £8 including refreshments – available from The Friends’ Office at 3 The Precincts, 01227 865292 or friends@canterbury-cathedral.org
