Until May, the Crypt Treasury at Canterbury Cathedral will be displaying a single book. The focus on this item is not because of its 17th Century content, but because of its physical form. Found by the Cathedral Library staff in the wreckage of the library after the destructive raid of 1942, the book has been preserved in the Cathedral collections as a reminder of this terrible time in history.
Battered and torn it represents the Baedeker raids in one unique object.
A brief story of the Baedeker Raids can be found here.
The exhibition area is usually open from 10.00 to 16.30 hrs Monday to Saturday and 12.00 – 14.00 hrs on Sunday, but subject to occasional restricted access for special services, events and conservation.
