Visiting the Cathedral

The Shop

About the Shop

"One of the best gift shops ever - unusual things, many by craftspeople, and a perfect place to shop for Christmas or birthdays" Kent on Sunday

Overview

Canterbury Cathedral shop stocks, as much as possible, art, crafts and articles locally made, and Fair Trade products are also available, for example a popular Noah's Ark made in Sri Lanka. All profits go back to the Cathedral, and much of the stock is exclusive to the shop. There are reproductions of sculpted figures and animals from the Cathedral building - the cat on the gate is especially popular.

There is a book shop on the first floor covering Cathedral related themes, books by the Archbishop and by Mrs. Williams, but also a more general range of books for gifts. Next to it is a more up-market gifts and local crafts space, including prints by John Doyle RA. Local produce is on show with honey, jams, chutneys, beer, fudge and wine from the surrounding countryside, but also Emma Bridgewater pottery, ranges of T-Shirts, ties, silk scarves and jewellery from all over the UK. Canterbury Cross jewellery continues to be popular and, of course, CDs by the famous Cathedral Choir. There is an online shop and purchases are dispatched within a couple of days.

Local Products

Local potter Cherry Tewfik and Mary Glancy sell their work here, and John Donaghey his marquetry.

As long as the stock is of excellent quality, and ethically produced, there is humour and charm.
