Overseas Schools

The Cathedral is a wonderful resource for visiting schools and we offer a wide range of materials to assist teachers and to offer school groups an enriching and educational experience. Teacher information sheets and pupil questionnaires are available as free downloads or on arrival from the Welcome Centre. Staff and volunteers, trained on all aspects of Cathedral life and its history are available to assist teachers inside the Cathedral throughout the visit.

An Entrance only reserves entry at a specific time using the pre-booked entrance at Christchurch Gate. Unbooked groups will be charged a higher rate. Pupils should be divided into small groups with 1 adult per 10 pupils and the teachers should accompany their pupils at all times. The supervising adults will be given a badge to wear and an information leaflet highlighting the main features of the building. Please ensure that you bring enough adults as inadequately supervised groups may not be allowed into the Cathedral. Entrance to the Cathedral is £5.00 per pupil with 1 adult free per 10 pupils. (This price is fixed until April 2012, when it may change.)

The Audio-tour allows pupils to have their own handset and listen to information about the main parts of the Cathedral. The audio-tours are available in English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese. The tour lasts around 45 minutes and costs £1.50 per pupil.

The Audio-visual presentation is a 15 minute film that provides an appropriate introduction to the history and life of the Cathedral. This is available in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Japanese and costs an additional £1.00 per pupil.

Please note that pupils must be supervised at all times during their visit to Canterbury Cathedral. We would be grateful if you could encourage your pupils to be silent during their visit to the Crypt as we try and keep it a peaceful place for prayer.
