History and Heritage - The Archives, at work Archives

Welcome to Canterbury Cathedral Archives. Located on the site of the medieval dormitory and only yards from the cathedral treasury, where documents were stored in the Middle Ages, the Archives continues a tradition of record-keeping that dates back at least 1300 years.

Canterbury Cathedral Archives and Library will be closing to the public from Monday 13 September to Friday 24 September 2010 in order to undertake vital work on collections.

Kent County Council Logo Canterbury Cathedral Archives is administered jointly by the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury and Kent County Council, and forms part of the County Council's Archives Service. It also operates as the record office for Canterbury City Council and is a Diocesan Record Office for the Diocese of Canterbury.
