The £50m global campaign to Save Canterbury Cathedral has received a great deal of publicity in the local, national and international press since the launch in October 2006. Word is certainly spreading about the potentially disastrous situation facing the cathedral, if funds are not raised quickly, and essential conservation work carried out.
To help raise money and awareness for the campaign the fundraising calendar for 2007 is quickly beginning to fill up with events, collections, dinners and concerts. To assist with all of these exciting activities the fundraising team would like to make an urgent plea to the people of Kent – not for donations of money but for donations of time.
There are lots of different reasons why people volunteer. They may have free time whilst their children are at school, or have recently retired and have time to spare. People planning to return to work or students looking for work experience could volunteer for a global brand such as Canterbury Cathedral to put on their CV’s. Anyone who likes to keep active or enjoys the prospect of giving something back to their community could make a fantastic volunteer for the campaign.
Kent Community Fundraising Manager, Karen Gambrell explains, “The people of Kent have been extremely generous to date with their financial response to the campaign. Now we are in desperate need of volunteers to help us with a range of tasks ranging from office administration to helping us to organise larger scale fundraising events. These volunteers will be vital to ensure the success of the Save Canterbury Cathedral campaign. There are lots of different volunteering opportunities available and we’re keen to hear from individuals with a few hours to spare, through to large organisations and associations who would like to hold fundraising events for the Save Canterbury Cathedral Campaign”.
