Save canterbury cathedral

Support the Music

Music forms an essential role in the Cathedral inspiring worshippers, pilgrims and visitors alike. The fundraising campaign needs to raise £9m to ensure that those high standards are maintained and the quality of music constantly enhanced. We can ensure this by continuing to attract talented musicians or individuals with outstanding musical potential such as Organists, Lay Clerks and Choristers.

Organ Refurbishment

Canterbury Cathedral is an unusual acoustic space as it is divided into two completely separate sections. An instrument of unusual flexibility and size is required to provide thrilling music to accompany services and other events. The present Grand Organ was built in 1886 and last re-built in 1979. It is now in need of refurbishment at an estimated cost of  £4.0m.

Endowment for the Choristers

The contribution by the Dean and Chapter towards the education of the Choristers in a boarding environment is a significant call on resources. Increased investment is required in the form of an endowment of £3m to ensure the long term future of the boys' choir and its unique role in our national heritage.

Choir House Modernisation

The current Choir House, which accommodates 30 boys was converted to a boarding house in 1938 and last modernised in the late 1960s. A major renovation project is necessary to ensure the facilities meet with current Health and Safety legislation and modern boarding requirements. This will cost an estimated £2m.
