The roof of the Cathedral is made up of over 3,000 lead trays. Last re-leaded over 150 years ago , much of it is now due for replacement. Many of the existing tiles have broken or are worn out and the roof is now leaking. 

The project is massive. The Nave roof which requires the most urgent attention, is almost 60 metres long; longer than an Olympic swimming pool. Other areas to be re-leaded include the North East and South East Transept roofs, which are each larger than the average parish church.

 

Be part of it
You now have a unique opportunity to support this huge project in a very personal way. You are invited to sponsor a lead tray, personalised with your initials which will form part of the new roofs.

In return for your generous sponsorship, you’ll be given a photograph of the tray with your engraving and a Certificate as your personal thank you. We will also include your name on our Roll of Donors and on the Save Canterbury Cathedral website.

Each tray costs £1,000 and is a special way to leave a lasting legacy.

You can sponsor a tile as an individual or why not club together with others from your family, your school, your business or other local organisations for a joint contribution? It is also a special way to remember a loved one.
